9th Annual
Rotary River Rally
Thanks to all the participants and spectators who came to the 9th annual Rotary River Rally featuring The Great Cardboard Boat Regatta® on April 18-19, 2008. Full sized boats built from corrugated cardboard took to Tempe Town Lake and their crews paddled a 200 yard race course. Teams come from local schools, youth groups, families, individuals and corporations.
Boat designs get pretty elaborate – this year we saw a Football, a full sized Crane, and a replica Paddle-Wheeler - with costumes to suit - hard hats and hoop skirts, plus pokemon outfits and pirate costumes!
Awards are given for the fastest boats in 3 classes and 2 divisions, plus there are trophies for the Best Dressed Team, the Most Spirited, Pride of the Regatta, Vogue Awards, and (the most sought after) the Titanic Award for the most spectacular sinking ship! The competition is fierce - see the list of 2008 winners below!
The Rotary River Rally is produced as a fund-raiser by volunteers from Tempe Rotary Clubs
