Over half the cardboard boats participating in the Rotary River Rally are built by youth groups – cub scouts, girl scouts, church groups, elementary school students, after-school math & science clubs, high school and college students.
Teachers and group leaders tell us that building and racing a cardboard boat is a rewarding experience, one that their students look forward to every year. Not only is it a great exercise in design, it also helps build teamwork and is a practical exercise in math and science.
How can I get involved?
You can be a part of that experience by "adopting" a youth or school team. This tax-deductible donation lets us keep the entry fee low for our student boat builders, while raising money for children's charities. The students will build and race the boat and display the logo/name of your company, family, or group on the boat. You can sponsor your own school or group, or ask the Rotary River Rally to find a group that needs a sponsor.
We encourage you to talk with the adult leaders of your sponsored team to see what other ways you can get involved with your team. This could range from participating in the boat building, providing supplies or t-shirts for the team, or inviting the kids in for a pre or post-race celebration!
The cost to adopt a boat is just $400 -- $100 of which goes to the team you adopt and the remainder to the Rotary River Rally benefiting charities.
